Reactivity of the gold/water interface during selective oxidation catalysis.
The selective oxidation of alcohols in aqueous phase over supported metal catalysts is facilitated by high-pH conditions. We have studied the mechanism of ethanol and glycerol oxidation to acids over various supported gold and platinum catalysts. Labeling experiments with (18)O(2) and H(2)(18)O demonstrate that oxygen atoms originating from hydroxide ions instead of molecular oxygen are incorpo...
متن کاملGold nanocluster-catalyzed selective oxidation of sulfide to sulfoxide.
Thiolate-protected gold nanoclusters are explored for catalytic application in the selective oxidation of sulfide to sulfoxide by PhIO. The TiO(2)-supported Au(25)(SR)(18) nanocluster catalysts give rise to high catalytic activity (e.g.∼97% conv. of Ph-S-CH(3) and ∼92% selectivity for Ph-S(=O)-CH(3) sulfoxide) and show excellent recyclability in the sulfoxidation process.

متن کاملExcitable CO oxidation on Pt(110) under nonuniform coupling.
A new feedback scheme for guided spatiotemporal pattern formation in reaction-diffusion systems is introduced. In contrast to previously established control methods, we present a coupling protocol that is sensitive to the presence of coherent structures in the medium. Applying this feedback to the catalytic CO oxidation on Pt(110) in both experiments and numerical simulations, we show that temp...
